Did you know that New York State’s retirement savings program registration deadline is less than a month away. Register before the deadline of May 15th, 2026, with New York Secure Choice and invest in your employee’s future success. If you are an employer and your company has 10 or more employees, have been in business for a total of two or more years and a qualified employer-sponsored retirement plan is not already offered, New York Secure Choice is required to facilitate the program. Registration for the program takes only a few minutes and can give them the opportunity to use this benefit and allow them to save for retirement with each paycheck.
Be sure to complete your registration by May 15, 2026 if you have 15 to 29 employees and July 15, 2026 for 10 to 14 employees.
- Visit the Employer Registration.
- Enter in your Employer Identification Number (EIN).
- Enter in your unique Access Code.
Attention: Your Access Code is only meant for your own business. Do not share your unique code with any other business. If you are in need of help in completing your registration, feel free to watch the following onboarding walkthrough and review the Registration Checklist from New York Secure Choice. If you can not find your unique access code, request it here.
If you already offer a retirement plan or have fewer than ten employees, you can use your own EIN and Access Code to verify your exemption from the program. If you work with a payroll provider, they may be able to help you manage the program. Many providers connect with the employer portal to automate employee contribution submissions. It’s a good idea to confirm whether your provider integrates with New York Secure Choice, or review instructions for adding administrative users to grant them access.
Important: If your organization already sponsors a qualified retirement plan (e.g., 401(k), profit sharing, cash balance, 403 (b), SIMPLE IRA) you are not required to participate: but you must certify your exemption. The state DOES NOT automatically know that your company maintains a plan. Failure to act may result in your organization being treated as non-compliant.
