It was moderated by the dean of the Lally School of Management at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Thomas Begley. Both Tully and Papa discussed their knowledge of succession planning, frequent issues and concerns that arise with this integral part of ownership, and how to be proactive and navigate some common challenges in transitioning a business to family members or key employees. Some of the specific topics included how to compensate key non-family employees that have been with the business for several years, how to calculate the selling price of the business, and what successors should be concerned with as the business is being turned over to them.
