Hanlon Recieves Certified Fraud Examiner Credential

Teal, Becker & Chiaramonte, CPAs, P.C. has announced that Partner Joseph Hanlon has earned his Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential. The announcement was made by the accounting and advisory firm’s Managing Partner Robert H. Kind. In order to become a CFE, Hanlon has met a stringent set of criteria and passed a rigorous exam administered by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), the world’s largest anti-fraud organization and leading provider of anti-fraud training and education.

“In today’s economy, it is more important than ever before to help our clients prevent fraud as best we can,” said Kind. “Joe’s commitment to earning the CFE credentials further positions TBC as a firm with the knowledge and experience to better serve our clients in a variety of industries.”

Hanlon, who joined TBC in 1985, successfully met the ACFE’s character, experience and education requirements for the CFE credential, and has demonstrated knowledge in four areas critical to the fight against fraud: Fraudulent Financial Transactions, Fraud Prevention and Deterrence, Legal Elements of Fraud and Fraud Investigation.

CFEs have the ability to: examine data and records to detect and trace fraudulent transactions; interview suspects to obtain information and confessions; write investigation reports; advise clients as to their findings; testify at trial; understand the law as it relates to fraud and fraud investigations; and identify the underlying factors that motivate individuals to commit fraud. CFEs on six continents have investigated more than 1 million suspected cases of civil and criminal fraud.

Over the course of Hanlon’s 28 years at TBC, he has focused on providing accounting, auditing and tax services to a diverse group of area businesses. These include employee benefit plans, not-for-profit organizations, contractors, manufacturers, oil companies, real estate developers, hotels and mortgage brokerage firms. His abilities extend to preparation of individual tax returns as well as providing expert witness testimony. Management advisory services include critiques of internal control functions resulting in corrective action plans. In addition, he has developed an expertise in performing audits of limited partnerships in compliance with HUD guidelines and electronic submission of audits using REAC reporting system. He meets all continuing professional education requirements to perform audits in accordance with Governmental Auditing Standards.

Hanlon participates in the activities of the Southern Saratoga Chamber of Commerce and is a past graduate of the Rensselaer Community Leadership Program. In addition to the ACFE, his professional membership includes the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
